生日的惊喜 A Rose and a Chocolate Surprise

Recently, my sister was given a beautiful red rose for a special occasion. She took the rose to her home and because they have a special water treatment inside of their house, she sent her son outside to get fresh water for the vase. Before she placed the rose into the water, she tried to cut the stem to freshen it. She quickly learned that the stem was made of wire and it was not a real rose and didn't need any water.

This story reminded me of a time many years ago when one of our children was away from home and could not be with me to help celebrate my birthday on December 25th. Our son, Mark had sent a beautifully wrapped gift to me. When I opened the package, it was a large box of chocolates. Certainly something that was not available to purchase on the island where we lived. I thought, "This looks so delicious, but we will save the gift to eat after all of the other Christmas treats are gone, and we will enjoy it even more".

Several weeks into January, I brought out the box of chocolates to share with the family. Everyone was very anxious for the sweet taste of a special chocolate from the box. I took the lid off the box and to our surprise and disappointment; we discovered it was not a box of candy but a box of puzzle pieces!! When they were put together, they would look just like the picture on the top of the box. Would you believe that thirty-three years later, I still have that box of puzzle pieces as a reminder that things are not always the way they appear to be. Have you ever been so surprised?
